Tuesday Rock Roundup for May 4th
Bret Michaels is walking, his sister Michelle Sychak said in a radio interview yesterday. Although he remains in intensive care since suffering a brain hemorrhage more than a week ago, Bret’s sister said he “was definitely doing better — he was kind of getting up and started to walk a bit.” His doctors will hold a press conference today with more details on his progress.
Robert Plant was supposed to be working on a follow-up to his Grammy-winning album with Alison Krauss, Raising Sand, but that seems to have been put on the backburner. In an interview on a U.K. T.V. show, Plant says, “We go dancing together, but she’s gone back to her old band, back to the bluegrass stuff, and I’m with another band now in Nashville.”
Roger Waters will be on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon tomorrow night.
Speaking of late night…Max Weinberg will reportedly not be back in the bandleader role when Conan O’Brien starts his new late-night show in the fall, that according to Al Kooper whose band includes members of Conan’s band.

While Bret Michaels remains in critical condition at an undisclosed hospital, Sharon Osbourne, his Celebrity Apprentice co-star, calls it a tragedy: 7. Donald Trump has been in touch with the hospital where Bret’s being treated, and says that the singer is “in big, big trouble and the prognosis is not great.”
John Mellencamp has set June 15th as the release date for his four-CD, 54-track career-spanning box set, On the Rural Route 7609. Unlike typical box sets that tend to be presented in chronological order, this one is laid out as if each of the discs were a freestanding album. 17 of the songs are unreleased, including the demos of “Jack and Diane” and “Authority Song.” The set also contains a 72-page book in which Mellencamp tells the story behind each song. As for the title of the set, Mellencamp says, “I started making records in ‘76, and the most recent track on the collection was done in ‘09. So Rural Route 7609; it’s like an address. I thought it sounded cool.”
