Miami chain opens family footwear store in KC

Gold high heels with a fine filigree falling over the instep? Or how about 5-inch leopard print platforms with black lace over the cap? Or multicolored stilettos with snakeskin-like trim? </p><p>Too fashion-forward?</p><p>Well, the new Shoe Trend &#x97; which opened Saturday in the Shops on Blue Parkway, 4403 E. 50th Terrace &#x97; also has some more conservative styles, all at a discount. Women&#x92;s shoes run about $9.99 and up for flats and sandals, to $24.99 and up for high heels. Men&#x92;s shoes are $14.99 to $24.99, and children&#x92;s shoes are $9.99 to $14.99. Boots cost a bit more.</p><p>Shoe Trend is a Miami-based family shoe store chain with 82 locations in 19 states under Shoe Trend or Shoe Time logos. Nearly all of its locations are in urban areas. </p><p><strong><span class="subhead">With Gusto</span></strong></p><p>The Gusto Lounge, formerly in midtown, is moving south to Westport. It plans to open soon in the former Hell Bar space, 504 Westport Road. Hours will be 4 p.m. to 3 a.m.</p><p>Managing partner Philipp Vitti has been gutting the space, bringing it back to its original brick-and-mortar roots, circa 1851, but with a more modern New York loft style. </p><p>The Gusto Lounge closed in early September at 3810 Broadway after nearly two years of operations. Vitti, who took over as operations manager in April, said lease negotiations fell through for that spot, as well as for 3808 Broadway, an upper-level space that housed a private club call The Ledger.</p><p><strong><span class="subhead">50 years young</span></strong></p><p>In other shopping center news:</p><p>&#x95;The Old Westport Shopping Center &#x97; the one with the covered wagon out front at Westport Road and Southwest Trafficway &#x97; is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year and is 98 percent leased with such tenants as Dollar Tree, Half Price Books, First Watch, Record Bar and Westlake Ace Hardware.</p><p>&#x95;Lone Elm Antique Mall has opened in Southwest Plaza Shopping Center, 901 S. Parker St., Olathe. It has 92 vendor booths with such items as jewelry, repurposed furniture, collectables, and vintage records and equipment.</p><p>&#x95;Orion Golf, a seasonal store offering golf-related merchandise, golf lessons and packages to play at area golf courses, has opened on the second level of the Crown Center Shops. Its grand opening will be Nov. 1.</p><p>&#x95;Bridal Solutions has opened in Watts Mill Plaza, 1024 W. 103rd St. The locally owned shop sells bridal apparel and accessories, and prom dresses; rents tuxedos; and does alterations. A grand opening is planned for Dec. 1.</p><p>&#x95;Sugar Plums, a seasonal holiday and gift store, has opened in the Great Mall of the Great Plains, 20700 W. 151st St., Olathe. The shop sells holiday decor, gift wrap, cards and more at a 50 percent discount. </p><p><strong><span class="subhead">Quick bites</span></strong></p><p>&#x95;The new Kansas City Bread Co. plans to open at 706 Westport Road in mid-November.</p><p>Owner Roberto Luna, a master baker and pastry chef formerly with wholesale operation City Bakery, will continue selling his goods to area restaurants but also will have a cafe and retail space selling sandwiches, salads, soups, bread, pastries and cookies.</p><p>The New Napoleon Bakery formerly operated in the space.</p><p>&#x95;Sarpino&#x92;s Pizzeria is now open at 905 Westport Road. Sarpino&#x92;s is a carry-out, dine-in and delivery operation offers made-from-scratch gourmet and specialty pizzas. It also has locations in Overland Park and Leawood. </p><p>&#x95;The franchisee for the Papa Murphy&#x92;s at 809 N.E. Woods Chapel Road in Lee&#x92;s Summit has closed the operation for personal reasons, according to a corporate spokeswoman. The company is looking for another franchisee to take over the location. </p><p>A Papa Murphy&#x92;s recently opened at 6636 Monticello Road, Shawnee, and another is to open at 608 Tulip Drive in Bonner Springs in mid-November. </p><p>&#x95;Two months after opening in Olathe, Napoli&#x92;s Italian Restaurant has closed at 2049 E. Santa Fe Drive. The owners said that the space was too big and lacked visibility from the street, and that they spent too much on the restaurant and didn&#x92;t have enough money to advertise. They also have locations in St. Joseph and Sedalia, Mo.</p><p>&#x95;Bo Ling&#x92;s earlier announced plans to move its restaurant at 4800 Main St. to a higher-profile spot in the Skelly Building, 4701 Jefferson St. The owners now plan to move after the holidays but before the Chinese New Year on Jan. 23.</p><p>&#x95;801 Chophouse has opened in Park Place, 11616 Ash St., Leawood. The Des Moines-based company also has a location in the Power & Light District.
