Things are heating up as summer nears
PANAMA CITY BEACH — I was slogging through beach sand in my dress shoes last week, bemoaning the mid-day heat and slow going, when I was reminded of something.
The sky was a deep blue with light puffs of white cloud and bright orange and yellow paragliders soaring overhead. Seagulls cawed. People in beachwear walked along the surf line and relaxed on towels. The high wall of resorts blocked the constant rumble of passing motorcycles on Front Beach Road.
Here’s the thing: Maybe I wasn’t dressed for it — dark slacks, black polo, ankle boots — but I was on the beach on a perfect spring afternoon. I had nothing to complain about.
Summer is approaching quickly. (It may not arrive until late June, officially, but around here we recognize Memorial Day weekend as the start.) And there is so much to do. Here are some of the things I’ve been up to recently:
