The Firm: John Grisham Reflects on Mitch McDeere Character
Although author John Grisham released The Firm over twenty years ago, Grisham is back in the spotlight with the upcoming debut of The Firm TV series on NBC.
Ahead of the January 8 series premiere of The Firm, starring Josh Lucas in the role of lawyer Mitch McDeere, The Deadbolt spent some time with John Grisham to learn more about what it was like to revisit his first best seller so many years later. Actor Tom Cruise brought Mitch McDeere to life in the 1993 film version of The Firm and now Josh Lucas steps into the shoes of McDeere in a story that takes place ten years after the events of the Cruise topped legal thriller.
With The Firm and Mitch McDeere soon to be off and running on TV, we wanted to know whether there was any territory that John Grisham wished he could have taken McDeere to but didn’t in the novel.
“I can’t say I wanted to take Mitch anywhere,” John Grisham admitted to The Deadbolt. “When I left Mitch in the book, he was pretty much on the run and probably facing a lifetime of that because he had ticked off some really nasty people.”
