Dancer says time on stage good for youngsters
When the local audience watches the Children's Center for Dance Education's annual performance of "The Children's Nutcracker" on Sunday afternoon at Henderson Fine Arts Center , they'll see a familiar face.
Growing up, Sarah Stone Laramie likely danced every role there was to dance in the group's classic holiday ballet, and now she's teaching young dancers how to follow in her ballet shoes. She'll also dance a role in the performance.
But "the following" is not so much just about the dancing.
Laramie, who teaches one class for the non-profit arts organization, is now a pharmacist at Methodist Hospital who has returned to her hometown to live and work with husband and St. Louis native Doug Laramie, also a pharmacist.
"I like to help them get ready for the stage and help them build up confidence in themselves," Sarah Laramie said, adding that she gained teaching experience through the school starting during the time she was in junior high. "I missed the interaction with the kids."
