Margaret Shields 1929-2011
Margaret Shields (nee Martin) late of Oakland Park and Fairgreen, Dundalk, passed away peacefully at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda on Tuesday, December 20th, was a member of a highly respected Dundalk family.
Aged 82, Margaret was daughter of the late Kathleen and Patrick Martin, 4 Fairgreen, and after leaving school, she began working in Rawsons shoe factory.
She worked there for years and soon met and married her late husband, Paddy Shields, Seatown Place. Their first home was located over Johnny Brodigan's pub in Church Street, before moving to Quay Street . In the late 50s she gave birth to her first son, James, and in the 60s her second son, Martin, was born. After Martin's birth, Margaret became very ill and almost passed away, but her deep faith and devotion to St. Brigid helped her through her illness.
In 1967, Margaret, Paddy and her family were allocated a house in Cox's Demense and there she stayed until her passing. She also began working in the Ecco Factory, but in 1968 her world came crashing down around her when Paddy passed away at the young age of 45.
