So This Is What Shoe Heaven Looks Like
A good friend of mine who has a weakness for beautiful and budget-breaking shoes likes to draw a parallelism between her addiction and men and porn. To quote her loosely, “Men go to the internet and look at porn. I go to Lane Crawford and look at shoes.” I suppose there is some grain of truth to this because if you go to the shoe department of Lane Crawford, you’d think that there was some orgiastic fest what with all the ooh-ing and aah-ing and squeals of delight. You might even see women hugging a pair of Louboutins tightly next to their bosoms or a few caressing the fur detailing on a pair of Manolo Blahnik boots. There is also some form of sad0-masochism in play. “I can’t walk in them but I love them anyway,” you will sometimes overhear. Or “If I buy these I am going to eat cereal for a whole month but who cares, I will look good eating it.”
Shoes are to women what porn is to men. If we were to go by this analogy, what then do we make of the recently opened The Shoe Library at Lane Crawford’s Canton Road store? A massive 25,000 square foot space dedicated to all things shoes and bags to match, one of the biggest shoe boutiques in the world. Orgasmic heaven for the shoe lover? Or exquisite hell for the woman on a budget?
