Manolo Blahnik's shoe secrets
Manolo Blahnik has to carefully "edit" himself to ensure he doesn't "go wild" with his designs.
The 68-year-old shoe creator - who began designing footwear in the 1970s - puts his many years of success down to how easy his shoes are to wear, something he always tries to keep in mind when creating them.
"It feels pretentious, boring and pompous to talk about inspirations. I hate people that go on about things like that, when it is about the finished design [that counts]," he says. "I have to edit myself very carefully though, I'd go wild otherwise. I'll make five crazy styles, then I make the rest as normal styles. I don't want to just create nonsense."
Blahnik has a trusted group of employees who help bring his designs to life. He believes there are only a few people he really trusts to make them in the right way, "It takes a certain amount of experience to be able to work for me," he says.
"Anyone much younger than 70 doesn't have the experience to do what I do," he told vogue.co.uk.
Are Manolo Blahnik shoes really worth the money?
I have never bought them, don't intend on buying them - purely curious. I can't imagine paying $600+ for a pair of shoes, but then again if I had oodles of money lying around maybe I'd think differently. Soooooooo.....why are they so much and for those
