Harp music at Hilltop Spinners Christmas Party

CASSADAGA - The recent meeting of the Hilltop Spinners was held at the Cassadaga American Legion Hall and was the annual Christmas gathering and luncheon. Articles from knitted items to skeins of yarn to needle felted items were shown at the meeting, which also included a gift exchange. The luncheon included a wide variety of recipes and everyone enjoyed the fine meal. John Sipos of Cassadaga, past president of the group, gave the blessing prior to the meal.

Entertainment at the gathering was provided by past president Kent Knappenberger who played Christmas tunes on his portable harp. Knappenberger is a music instructor with the Westfield School District and an avid spinner of yarn. All enjoyed the special music of the season.

The Hilltop Spinners is a group of people who have kept the old art of spinning wool going. The group was formed in 1978 and is composed of members from southwestern New York, northwestern Pennsylvania, and eastern Ohio. Nanette Knappenberger of Westfield is the president of the group and Claire Heverley of Ripley is the secretary and newsletter editor. Yvonne Lee of Warren, Pa., serves as the treasurer. The spinning group meets six times a year on the second Saturday of the even months of the year in various locations. At the meetings, many different kinds of spinning wheels are being used, along with new items recently made with homespun yarn.
