Closing in on 500th victory, Stockton coach Gerry Matthews amassing wins ...
Even in a hostile environment, Gerry Matthews didn't change the way he coached.
In the early 1990s, the coach of the Richard Stockton College men's basketball team, who goes for his 500th career win tonight, led his team to a New York City college for a game. The crowd was loud and intimidating, rowdy and raucous.
An opposing fan even flashed a gun to scare the Ospreys.
One of the opposing teams' best players fouled out but refused to leave the court. The tension escalated. Fans screamed curses and verbal threats at Stockton.
Matthews simply wanted to know one thing from the officials: How many technical foul shots his team would be given?
The official told him none, that the goal was simply to get out of the arena alive.
Matthews' retort: "If I'm going to die, I'm going to die coaching basketball."
It wasn't funny that day, but that story now gets a chuckle from people who know the longtime coach. A lot of other stories about Matthews make people laugh and smile and sometimes shake their heads in mock disbelief.
Do sprays really work on white sneakers?
I recently bought white sneakers and usually when I wear white sneakers the dye from my jeans tend to rub onto my white sneakers. The lady at footlocker suggested that I buy this spray that when you spray it on the dye from my jeans will never rub off
ya that stuff works well, it even gets the blue out from jeans, just spray it on and wipe it off with a cloth or paper towel or somethin.
